I am considering becoming a zoo vet. help me with my options?

I am only a freshman right now, but it can't hurt to start thinking wayyy ahead. I want to pursue becoming a zoo vet even though I know its extremely competitive. If I do not get accepted to vet. school the first time should I work on a masters in zoology? what would be the best option to improve my resume? I am planning on completing as many internships and possibly getting a permanent job at a zoo when possible, but I need other ideas on how to make myself stand out to vet schools. Also, many vets I have talked to say if you snag an interview with a vet school to say you are interested in large animal medicine because there is more need in that field. Would there be a need for wildlife vets or should I just stick with large animal?
